چکیده

Australian Sweet Lupin (ASL) has a nutritional profile ideally suited for human consumption with high protein and fibre, but low starch and fat content. The nutritional and protein profile of germinated ASL may be better than ungerminated ASL and these improvements would provide further benefits in its use as an ingredient in food applications. In this study the nutritional components such as protein, crude fibre, fat and protein profile of germinated ASL flour following germination at 25 ̊C and 90% 95% relative humidity for 9 days were determined. The changes in the pattern of ASL protein during germination were analysed using sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). Germination significantly increased crude fibre contents by 450% (db), total protein contents by 38% (db) and decreased the fat content by 70% (db) at day 9 of germination. Electrophoretic analysis of the protein fractions revealed that during germination up to 9 days, some of the high molecular weight proteins disappeared. Germination represents a means to further improve the nutritional profile of the germinated ASL flour with an increased fibre and protein, but lower fat content.

In order to promote the use of lupin in pig nutrition, in this research the nutritional characteristics (i.e. dietary fibre, alkaloid and fatty acid profile) and the in vitro gas production of 12 lupin varieties grown in the Mediterranean basin and belonging to three lupin species (Lupinus albus, Lupinus angustifolius and Lupinus luteus) were assessed. Four varieties of L. albus (Asfer, Lublanc...

Short Communication Evaluation of USDA Lupinus sp. collection for seed-borne potyviruses

Plant viruses pose a threat to the acquisition, maintenance and distribution of lupin germplasm (genus Lupinus, family Fabaceae). The availability of sufficient quantities of healthy and virus-free seeds from maintained lupin collections is mandatory for conducting lupin research. The objective of this research was to determine which lupin species were potentially infected with potyviruses (pre...

Introduction of new crops is one of the strategic approaches for production of feed for livestock and hence protein requirements for the increasing population. White lupine (Lupinus albus L.), yellow lupine (L. luteus L.) and blue (narrow leaf) lupine (L. angustifolius L.) are legumes that can be used for production of feed for livestock and as result protein requirements for the increasing pop...

Understanding the nutritional chemistry of lupin (Lupinus spp.) seed to improve livestock production efficiency.

In their raw, unprocessed form, lupins have many desirable characteristics for feeding both ruminants and single-stomached animals. An emphasis on these desirable characteristics when formulating diets, combined with an advanced knowledge of how components of lupins can influence nutritional value, will ensure they make a cost-effective contribution to livestock diets. The main lupin species us...

INTRODUCTION White lupin (Lupinus albus L. Fabaceae) is one of four economically important species of the genus Lupinus, which consists of over 300 annual species (Hondelmann 1984). The other three species are: L. angustifolius, L. luteus, and L. mutabilis. Approximately 100 species of Lupinus occur in the US and Canada and most are native. White lupin, an old crop for the southern United State...
